Semi Air Suspension

Additional Air Springs – The Flexible Solution

Additional air springs enhance standard springs, delivering greater comfort and safety to the chassis. Motorhomes and commercial vehicles face various design-related challenges, including constant loading with fluctuating weight distribution, heavy fixtures, and equipment. Standard steel springs often reach their limits quickly, as they tend to lose tension under consistent load, causing the chassis to fall short of expectations.

Even if a brand-new vehicle performs reasonably well initially, aging steel springs can lead to a noticeable decline in comfort and driving safety within just a few months. The fatigue of the spring steel can cause the vehicle to sag at the rear axle, compromising its original spring function.

Additional air springs offer an effective solution by raising the rear of your vehicle, significantly improving suspension comfort and overall driving performance.

Restore Your Motorhome's Roadworthiness

Additional air springs can be installed on the rear axle alongside standard steel springs. Unlike mechanical springs, the height of air suspension elements—known as air bellows—can be continuously adjusted to accommodate varying loads using compressed air. This system is conveniently controlled from the driver’s cab via a compressor and control unit, both included in the delivery.

With this capability, you can raise the rear of heavy motorhomes or commercial vehicles either permanently or as needed, such as when navigating steep ferry ramps or rough roads. This adjustment helps prevent the vehicle from bottoming out, which can cause damage to the rear or side skirts. Additionally, if your vehicle’s payload is insufficient, many models allow for increased payload capacity.

Practical Helper – Retrofittable and Extremely Flexible

The air bellows of an additional air suspension system are typically mounted between the original spring and the vehicle frame on the rear axle. This design allows the air spring to support the standard steel spring, distributing the spring forces gently into the vehicle frame.

Our precisely fitting mounting brackets make installation easy and reliable. Depending on the vehicle type, we utilize double bellows, conical bellows, or rolling bellows as spring elements. The flexible adjustment options for air pressure in the bellows enable the rear of heavily loaded motorhomes, vans, or commercial vehicles to be raised permanently.

Motorhomes with a long rear overhang, in particular, often suffer from fatigued and overloaded steel springs. By adding an air suspension system, you can restore your vehicle to a level position, significantly enhancing the handling and overall performance of your motorhome or van.

User-Friendly Operation

The system is designed for effortless operation: with just the push of a button, the air bellows on the rear axle can be filled synchronously, raising the rear of the vehicle without any torsion. If the motorhome leans to one side after filling due to its design or load distribution, you can easily lower the higher side with another button press. This ensures convenient one-handed operation at all times.

Balance one-sided loads quickly and efficiently

Although modern motorhomes have undergone a complex and time-consuming design phase, it is difficult to balance heavy interior fittings such as a refrigerator, bed and kitchenette. The unpleasant result is an uneven weight distribution on the transverse axis. If the vehicle is also loaded on one side, loading differences are noticeable not only visually but also in terms of driving dynamics. Uneven side levels cannot of course be corrected with rigid steel springs. The situation is different with an additional air suspension system. The flexible air bellows of the so-called 2-circuit system are supplied with compressed air by two separate air circuits. With the help of the standard 2-circuit control unit including double pressure gauge, the air pressure of both bellows can be read and regulated separately. This means that annoying inclines can be easily and conveniently compensated and individually adjusted at any time.

Compatible with electronic stability program

The electronic stability program (ESP) is an electronically controlled driver assistance system for motor vehicles that prevents the car from skidding by braking individual wheels. Since 2011, this useful assistance system has been a mandatory feature in new passenger car and commercial vehicle models. Since the safety of our customers is our top priority, we are particularly proud that all of our air suspension systems – whether additional or full air suspension – are ESP compatible and can therefore be operated with the stability program activated.

Immune to electromagnetic interference

All Goldschmitt air suspensions are tested for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The EMC test ensures that the functionality of a technical device is not disturbed or influenced by other devices with unwanted electrical or electronic effects. At the same time, it is guaranteed that the object being tested does not cause any interference with electromagnetic influences. In other words, the Pro Series jack system is immune to external electrical and electromagnetic interference and does not actively influence any other devices electromagnetically. This means that we can guarantee that our air suspension systems will operate smoothly in any environment.

More payload thanks to air suspension

If the payload of your motorhome is not sufficient, it is possible to subsequently increase the payload for many vehicle types. Full air suspension is a popular product for optimizing both driving comfort and the permissible total weight or axle loads. A corresponding load assessment report for your vehicle model is a prerequisite for increasing the load . We would be happy to advise you and check for you whether a corresponding report is available for your vehicle and whether an increase in load is possible. Please also note that the load capacity of the tires and rims also play an important role in increasing the load. Our aluminum rims in the GSH or GSM series have very high load capacities and are ideally suited for increasing the load.
