Semi Air Suspension
Additional Air Springs – The Flexible Solution
Additional air springs enhance standard springs, delivering greater comfort and safety to the chassis. Motorhomes and commercial vehicles face various design-related challenges, including constant loading with fluctuating weight distribution, heavy fixtures, and equipment. Standard steel springs often reach their limits quickly, as they tend to lose tension under consistent load, causing the chassis to fall short of expectations.
Even if a brand-new vehicle performs reasonably well initially, aging steel springs can lead to a noticeable decline in comfort and driving safety within just a few months. The fatigue of the spring steel can cause the vehicle to sag at the rear axle, compromising its original spring function.
Additional air springs offer an effective solution by raising the rear of your vehicle, significantly improving suspension comfort and overall driving performance.
Restore Your Motorhome's Roadworthiness
Additional air springs can be installed on the rear axle alongside standard steel springs. Unlike mechanical springs, the height of air suspension elements—known as air bellows—can be continuously adjusted to accommodate varying loads using compressed air. This system is conveniently controlled from the driver’s cab via a compressor and control unit, both included in the delivery.
With this capability, you can raise the rear of heavy motorhomes or commercial vehicles either permanently or as needed, such as when navigating steep ferry ramps or rough roads. This adjustment helps prevent the vehicle from bottoming out, which can cause damage to the rear or side skirts. Additionally, if your vehicle’s payload is insufficient, many models allow for increased payload capacity.
Practical Helper – Retrofittable and Extremely Flexible
The air bellows of an additional air suspension system are typically mounted between the original spring and the vehicle frame on the rear axle. This design allows the air spring to support the standard steel spring, distributing the spring forces gently into the vehicle frame.
Our precisely fitting mounting brackets make installation easy and reliable. Depending on the vehicle type, we utilize double bellows, conical bellows, or rolling bellows as spring elements. The flexible adjustment options for air pressure in the bellows enable the rear of heavily loaded motorhomes, vans, or commercial vehicles to be raised permanently.
Motorhomes with a long rear overhang, in particular, often suffer from fatigued and overloaded steel springs. By adding an air suspension system, you can restore your vehicle to a level position, significantly enhancing the handling and overall performance of your motorhome or van.
User-Friendly Operation
The system is designed for effortless operation: with just the push of a button, the air bellows on the rear axle can be filled synchronously, raising the rear of the vehicle without any torsion. If the motorhome leans to one side after filling due to its design or load distribution, you can easily lower the higher side with another button press. This ensures convenient one-handed operation at all times.
